The PETROTECH-2009 Conference focused on the Indian hydrocarbon industry in the context of global trends and provided a major platform for presentations and technical papers by experts as well as in-depth discussion and debate on the emerging challenges and opportunities. Participation by a galaxy of ministers and CEOs from across the globe made this a crucial conference and the delegates got an opportunity to attend and learn about the latest developments pertaining to hydrocarbon sector.
“The Government of India favours a competitive and market-oriented hydrocarbon sector with enhanced private sector and foreign investment in all the important segments in the industry,” said Mr. Pranab Mukherjee, Hon`ble Minister for External Affairs, while inaugurating the PETROTECH-2009 Conference in the presence of the Hon`ble Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Mr. Murli Deora, and other dignitaries on 12th January.

Addressing a packed house in the magnificent Plenary Hall, Mr. Mukherjee asked the
industry to plan for an energy future that is minus imbalances and shocks. A new
cooperative framework, based on dialogue and transparent exchange of data that ensures
an open, transparent, competitive and stable market would be the only way to handle
the energy security concerns that are central to our national interest and an important
aspect of our economic diplomacy, he said.
About 4,000 delegates, invited guests and speakers converged at Vigyan Bhawan to
deliberate and set the agenda on the theme of “Energy Independence with Global Cooperation:
Challenges and Solutions”.
Mr. Sarthak Behuria, Chairman, IndianOil, in his welcome address said that the structure
of the conference is expected to open many avenues of partnership.
